Very nice place. They have a number one and a number two. I think I was in number two. The price was sixteen dollars for the first night, but I got two dollars off per night for staying longer. It's on a main street but quiet. There's free Internet but it's slow. The room was serviced daily and the staff honest and friendly. Breakfast is included. The room was large, with TV English channels, fridge, comfy bed and window.

They have a number of rooms from A which is the nicest down to D, which is for cheapskates like me. The room itself had a bit of a worn feel, but I liked it because of the TV English Channels, comfy mattress, chair and table, Western toilet, daily service, friendly staff. There's a terrace restaurant, only one vegetarian dish! But it's a nice place to sit.

250 B for room in the main house. Bed, western toilet. Quiet and good size room. Friendly. Breakfast not included. Not fantastic value, but fair place next to Wat Jet Yot.
Restaurants
Pirata
Alley off Thanon Phahonyothin, heading towards the church, turn right at BK grill. There's a sign with an Italian flag design and it's one before Scorpio
This place doesn't have a sign over the door, I only knew what it was from the sign pointing to it from the main road. I went one night and it was OK but the food was expensive and very small portions. I had the rice then. Second visit I went for the margarita pizza, it being Italian. It was the skimpiest pizza I've ever seen. It was rolled so thin, then the very barest amount of tomato sauce just to give a red glaze that covered some parts, with about a quarter of the base actaully uncovered. No cheese what-so-ever, and it was expensive too! Mad!
The Old Dutch

Thanon Phahonyothin
This is very much a middle class place. It is indeed very Dutch. Not so much vegetarian food. Average dishes around 300B. I had the cheapest salad and the 'dressing' was basically sugared water. Cramped toilet but clean enough.
Da Vinchi Restaurant

This place is fantastic, one of the best I went to. The Greek salad had a huge chunk of feta, loads of olives. The garlic bread was huge. Tomato soup well made, well flavoured, good colour and came with bread with a dip. Pizza was only fair being made with tomato sauce, but the four cheese one was good.
Very nice atmosphere at night time inside. Nicely decorated. Friendly, intelligent staff who speak good English, warn you when they're busy and the food will take longer, and paraphrase when they're not sure if you said 'Greek', or 'Green' salad etc. Didn't get to use the toilet, but very nice. Makes a great intro if you've just arrived as leaving the bus station you can almost see it. It's the first place facing you when you walk to the main road. Only open for lunch and dinner though.

Near Thaipai Gate. Cheap and reliable.

Good place. Hard to find. Stand with your back to the Thaepae Gate facing looking up Ratchadamnoen Rd. Walk up there and take your first left after just five meters at the Fedex office, and go up a little soi. Just 250B, for TV English channels, western toilet attach, cupboard and two towels. The mattress is a little hard but standard hard for Chiang Mai. Honest enough as I left my bag there twice on visa runs. There's a bookshelf in reception with Thai guidebooks if you need to look something up. Quiet. Non-smoking rooms, but common balcony for puffing away. Long-stay discounts.

I was given a menu and asked for a fruit salad, the waitress lost her temper and snapped at me that she didn't have enough staff to be cutting up fruit. So I just had a coffee and never went back. The one time I went in before that I had a baked potato that was swimming in 'butter', but it's Thai style 'butter', which means marg full of sugary sugar taste. Weird.
The Wall

Good. Food OK. Price OK. Not a whole lot of vegetarian, but enough. Maonaise with Fries (I think the owner's Dutch?). Toilet OK. Music dvd's playing with a bar type atmosphere.
Wawee Coffee

Various places but this ones on Ratchadamnoen. Expensive but nice drinks. They'll make it exactly the way you ask. They have a spray kind air con for people sitting outside, which is nice when you first sit down if it's hot, but rapidly gets too cold and makes your clothes wet. It's a nice place when the sun starts to set and they stop the air con.
Zest Restaurant

MoonMuang
The food isn't great, to be honest. But it's friendly, convenient with a nice toilet.
