We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make our world.

"The beginning of a habit is like an invisible thread, but every time we repeat the act we strengthen the strand, add to it another filament, until it becomes a great cable and binds us irrevocably, thought and act"

How can you control your moods, feelings, emotions and depression? How can a new happiness achieve all of your material goals and desires?

The outer-method is also my own work and not available elsewhere. If you've read this site chronologically then you've now understood an inner-practice which you carry out nightly and perhaps also during a relaxation/meditation session, to reset the stream of consciousness, even if only for a short time in the beginning. This is unlikely to change your inner-philosophies by itself. If you reset the stream of consciousness for twenty minutes a day with the practice you have now, it won't help you to cease thinking negatively from your old philosophies during the day. With the outer-method we have a two-edged sword to inspire an irreversible and guaranteed change.

The outer-method is also to reset your stream, though this time during the day, as you go about life, which is why these combined methods are so powerful. This constant resetting will work, and when it does, your life will change. You will be who you wish to be, where you wish to be - happy!

Let's begin. Firstly you need a watch, one of those horrible black digital things. It needn't be expensive, but it must be one of the types that annoys everybody around you by beeping every hour, on the hour; it's generally referred to an hourly chime. Also, buy a small notebook that fits in your pocket.

Put the watch on and go about your life. Then, when it beeps, the instant it beeps, at one, two or three-o-clock, stop - and consider/examine what was going on in your mind at that exact time. Now perhaps at this particular beep you were paying for the groceries so you weren't thinking very much. On the next occasion maybe you were annoyed because of a parking ticket that you got twenty minutes ago and were still visualising killing a traffic warden, or your inner-dialogue was about the police, full of expletives. At this point, unless you've done exceptionally well at the inner-practice, it's likely that these thoughts were flowing from your old, established philosophys. Write down exactly what was in your mind at that time.

7.00am - Mental pictures of killing a traffic warden.

At the end of a day, or whenever, read through the statements you've written and link each negative sentence to a Soul Statement. So, if you'd written the above entry then you might add:

The government is always screwing me.
Or
These things always happen to me.

Do you see? This is your unhappy, not quite perfect, stream of consciousness flowing from your unhappy, or not quite perfect, inner-philosophy. If you do this over the course of a week and all of your thoughts were happy - hell, you should write a web page. After a while, maybe a week or something, you'll end up with a collection of Soul Statements; you might be pretty shocked at the moment-to-moment workings of your mind, I know I was, but be honest to yourself as that honesty is the first step to change. This collection of statements is describing your inner-philosophies that manifest the life you now have, your thoughts, moods and flow of consciousness. To fully transform yourself we have to know where you stand right now. If you look at the list you'll see that the essential Soul Statements repeat themselves and you'll probably notice the strongest, most repeating ones are really all there is, the others are variations of them. This exercise sounds weird, but when you complete it, you'll perhaps find that the tangle that makes up the confused part of your mind isn't so big after all. It's just the same few things repeating themselves many times in slight variations. Like a huge tangle of wool, you finally unravel it all and there were only two separate threads in the first place, it just looked complicated.

How to transform your mind

Once you've got to the point that the Soul Statements are only ever repeating themselves, or after a week (whichever is sooner), it's time to change the practice from observational to dynamic. Very simply, when the watch next peaceful streamchimes - stop your thoughts (rather than observe them) and have a 'dream' five minutes; artificially bring on happiness for five minutes, or even a few moments. Stop whatever thought was in your mind, don't worry - you can continue it later - but for a few moments think of the pictures from your inner-practice, their potential, and try to feel physical excitement. Play the Pollyanna delusional glad game, tell yourself and believe that all your dreams and goals have already come true - and make your belief so strong that you feel a stab of physical excitement as the adrenaline is shot into your stomach. In fact, let's say that you have to keep thinking like this until you feel that physical stab, then you can return to the killing traffic warden pictures if you so wish.

Believe me, over time, this will work. This resetting is like training a dog, you yank it to heel enough times and eventually it becomes too passive to bother pulling ahead in the first place. The inner and outer practice, working in synergy, is too strong for it to not work, and the easiest thing if you don't believe that your dreams can come true is to do it.

Dealing with anger

Now, the watch might beep on one hour and you're really wound up about, whatever. Something happened and you just can't calm yourself down enough to use the replacement thought, which is fair enough because you're human. There is a way to draw yourself out of the anger (unless you're in a murderous rage, in which case you might have to work it through a little). When you're as mad as this you're trapped in your thoughts, focusing on the senses can draw you out of your mind. If you focus on something in front of you, maybe a colleague's chair or a pebble, whatever - and look at it minutely, really study every single minute aspect of it. Concentrate on your hearing too, every single sound around you, voices, the traffic outside, someone near you breathing. Feel the chair below you with your touch-sense, feel your shoes and the way your blouse hangs on you. When you do this you're switching your attention from the angry inner-thoughts to outside, and it will calm you. Then you can go back inside of yourself, but recall the pictures from the inner-practice, and from that point the ides is the same as any other time, to work up the stab of excitement, at which point you may stop and you've successfully completed one more 'replacement session". Remember that with each session you successfully do complete (success being measured by the physical stab) chips another small piece of the boulders you are trying to be free of. When you've chipped enough away, then the stream itself will start to flow over the jagged parts that are left, and this itself will assist you to wearing down the obstacles to your new, chosen 'course of stream'.

And of course, once life starts proving right, manifesting your new philosophies as the old ones crumble, then you know you are on the way to obtaining all the dreams you've decided on. On your way to happiness!
